Situated on the hills south-east of Florence, the Villa di Torre a Cona is considered one of the most sumptuous villas in Florence.

According to a document dated 1066, at that time in the area stood the castle of Quona. The Rinuccini family acquired the estate in 1343 and owned it until 1748.

In the 18th century, the Rinuccinis had the ancient medieval castle demolished, with the exception of a tower, and commissioned the construction of the villa that is to be admired today.

The imposing building built according to the principles of late Florentine Mannerism is surrounded by a vast diamond-shaped park realized between the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th centuries and decorated with allegoric and mythological statues by Giuseppe Cantini.

In 1748 the Rinuccinis sold the villa to the Milanese Marquis Trivulzio, who, in their turn, sold it to Baron Padoa in 1882. In 1937 the estate eventually passed in the hands of Earl Rossi di Montelera.
