The Villa di Bellosguardo is one of the many
countryside .
Situated atop a hill in proximity to Lastra a Signa, it owes its name to the wonderful view it offers.
The Pucci family acquired the estate in 1540, but it was only in 1585 that Abbot Alessandro Pucci ordered commissioned architect Giovanni Antonio Dosio to renovate the building. The abbot wanted the villa to be transformed into a sumptuous aristocratic residence with a park.
In Dosio`s plan, a long wall connected the two buildings that stood in the estate - the master residence and an annex. Giovanni Balducci was commissioned to paint a cycle of frescoes on the façade and the halls of buildings, while Romolo del Tadda realized the zoomorphic sculptures that decorated the terraced park.
After having been bought by the Campis in the 19th century, in 1906 the villa was acquired by the celebrated tenor Enrico Caruso, who had it renovated. The villa was provided with two symmetrical wings and furnished with valuable furniture.
